Recycled fabric, hand and machine stitch

“Rick Rack,” using all upcycled cloth and materials, pays homage to my current life as a textile artist, my previous career as a physician, and the strong influences of my renegade artist mother. She straddled the competing pressures of 1950s etiquette, motherhood, seamstress homemaker, and her art practice. Like her, I lived a life divided. I left the maker community to become a doctor and have now returned.
