My mixed media works evoke empathy, depicting ways of life that are nearly extinct. This work, Uncharted, is a self portrait conceived while traveling in Morocco. It reflects despair and confusion while feeling trapped in a strange, unfamiliar world. In keeping with the somber mood, the wood panel substrate was first covered with torn brown paper bags and Arabic newspapers found on location. The subsequent layers are drawings followed by paint.
