Oil and Collage on Canvas

This piece is from a photo of me with my parents as their marriage was breaking apart. When I came across the photo I was struck by my parents' posture, my mom's hand square on my heart, and the ambivalent look in my young eyes. The pattern on my mother’s nightgown is from an old family letter dating back to 1911, symbolizing the generational perpetuity of family curses and blessings. The original postage stamp can be seen on the bottom - Paris to NYC, 1911.
